As a native Washingtonian, I grew up watching folks Hand Dance at various family functions, parties and special events and always admired the smooth dance moves.

In September 2012, my wife (girlfriend at the time) found a Hand Dance class for us to attend. The idea was to learn the core moves so we could hit the dance floor and do a little somethin’ somethin’, grooving to the good ole tunes from back in the day! It was a 12-week Beginner Hand Dance class taught by Lawrence “Brad” Bradford and Lisa Hamilton at Smooth & EZ Hand Dance Institute. I must admit, at first, I wondered if at some point I could even master a fraction of the effortless smoothness the couple portrayed. Then I reminded myself that life is a journey not a destination. It was then, I decided to take this approach to the dance floor and the journey began.

Next, was my Hand Dance class graduation as a student in 2013. But, I did not stop there. I attended a two-year course from the Smooth & EZ Hand Dance Institute completing the Instructor Certification Program in February 2017. This journey has led me to participate in various hand dance workshops, routines and assist in choreography for special performances.

Hand Dancing is an urban soulful art form passed down from generation to generation. Most rewarding, for me, is the opportunity to share this rhythm with others. My journey continues.
